I've been Interviewed

Amanda interviewed me and these are my answers to her 5 questions:

1. What is your most favourite outfit to wear - dressy and casual? My favorite outfit…hmmm that’s a hard one. My favorite “dressy” outfit right now is a pair of black slacks with a clingy top with black and aqua that has a twist across the bust. It looks so good on me (I feel as though my extra weight doesn’t show and isn’t that what makes an outfit GREAT?). As for my favorite casual outfit, sadly I don’t really have one. I love wearing jeans (but don’t think the ones I own flatter me as much as they could) with a thin pull-over sweater (usually with a v-neck).

2. When was your first kiss? I was in 5th grade. It happened at school behind one of the buildings. He and I only liked each other as friends. We were trying to get our mutual friend to join us doing something because we weren’t going to do it without her. She was the reason we were both there. She said the only way she would join us was if we kissed. We did, she said she didn’t see it so we kissed again. The next day it was all over school, so she had a BIG mouth. I got into trouble because my mom worked at the school. His girlfriend and my boyfriend both dumped us because of the kiss. That’s a memory I had forgotten. :-)

3. What character on TV is most like you? Which character would you mostlike to be? (how come this doesn't count as 2 questions) :-) The TV character most like me would probably be Piper Halliwell because she has a lot of hidden inner strength that she was unaware of until Prue died and she had to step up. I’m also like Piper because family means the world to both of us and we just want to keep our families safe, happy, and together. We would drop anything to put our families first.

As to which character I would most like to be…that’s a bit harder. I would like to be whichever character is a free spirit, not afraid to take chances, comfortable in her own skin, not afraid of her sexuality, not afraid to show every facet of her personality, and is not self-conscious. Do you know a character like that? That’s what I want to be when I grow up. :-)

4. Where in the world would you like to live the most (if you could take all your loved ones with you)? If I could take all those I love with me, I would love to live in Australia because it’s an island, a continent, and a country all rolled into one. It has the ocean. It has the desert. It has mountains. It has all types of climates. It has a lot of personality and I LOVE the accents.

5. What flavour of ice cream best describes your personality? I would have to say my personality is best described by the ice cream Rocky Road. I’m a bit nutty at times while at other times I’m pretty smooth but I’m always sweet in my own way. I look rather tame until you look inside. You never know what you’re going to find each day whether it’s a mushy sweet marshmallow, a nut, or even both in the same day. I find that I tend to shock people sometimes with the things I say and do without meaning to. For some reason, people see me a certain way, and when I show a side of me that’s different than what they are expecting it seems to shock them. I love that. :-)

If you want to participate:
1. Leave me a comment saying, “Interview me”, or words to that effect. Extra points for style.
2. I will respond by emailing you five questions, but I get to pick the questions, no questions asked. Any questions? :-)
3. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You have to include this explanation, and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

Let me know if you'd like to be interviewed. I can't wait to see your answers.

The Hokies at Virginia Tech

Bryce's Journal is a great blog by a Virginia Tech student. I put a link to his blog yesterday. Today, he has a few videos from the candlelight vigil and other pictures of the students he has put together.

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Even though he is writing about his feelings and everything going on, it's still got to take a toll on him emotionally. I don't understand how the students that were in their dorms or other classrooms can say "even though I wasn't affected by the shooting". Even though they were not in those classrooms or the dorm room that was hit does not mean they were not affected as this blog shows. EVERY student on that campus was affected even if they didn't know any of the victims. I'm pretty sure that is what those students mean when they say they weren't affected. I just wanted to get my two cents in about that. They were all affected. They should all be in our thoughts and prayers.

Addition to Virginia Tech blog

I've been having a hard time putting my thoughts and feelings about this whole situation into words which is why I haven't posted about it until today.

I didn't mention this in my last post, but I think that Kate (the girl mentioned by her boyfriend in his blog), the person that helped her barricade the door, Ryan Clark (the resident advisor that went to the aid of another student), and Liviu Librescu are all heroes.

As you may have noticed, I have not mentioned the shooter's name nor will I. EVER! I do not want to give him anymore publicity than he has already received.

Virginia Tech and the aftermath

It’s a sad day in America when your children cannot go to school and be safe. I read a few blogs today from this student who was on the VTech campus. On one blog, he mentioned that his girlfriend was in one of the classrooms in Norris Hall. Thankfully, she was only grazed by a bullet in the hand. She has a few fractured bones, but other than that is well. He mentioned that she said, “I got red on me.” That put everything into perspective for me. Yes, we heard of the shooting. Yes, we understand that 32 people were shot and killed by this lunatic as well as others that were injured. But did we really stop to think of the scene itself? I didn’t. It never dawned on me what those students that made it out alive actually saw. They saw their teachers, classmates, friends being shot. THEY SAW IT!! They were standing right there. They bear witness of the tragedy on that campus that day. Those pictures will live on in their minds for the remainder of their lives. Not only did this girl see what was going on, not only does she still carry a piece of the bullet in her hand, not only did she see her teacher shot and “didn’t think the teacher Herr Bishop made it out of the whole thing”, but she also kept her head about her and was a hero to the other students in her class that lived through the ordeal. She and another student barricaded the door so the shooter could not get back inside to finish the job he started. I read here that only 4 people walked out of that classroom. “The rest were dead or wounded.” That’s a class of about 25 students plus a teacher. I do not know how many of those remaining 21 students were only injured but that number is astounding.

Another thing I find so sad in this whole situation is the story of Liviu Librescu. This 76 year old man survived the Holocaust to be gunned down in this tragedy. This website tells the story of how he threw himself in front of the gunman so his students could get away. EVERY one of his students LIVED because of this man’s sacrifice.

My thoughts and prayers go with each person on the Virginia Tech campus as well as each person who has been touched by this tragedy.

The Important Things in Life

I have come to a conclusion regarding the important things in life. I actually took a moment to think about what I cared enough about to grab in case of emergency or fire. The only things I would make sure got out of the house would be H and our crazy dog. :-)

No matter what I say I want – new house, new clothes, all-wheel drive car – I can live without those things. I can’t live without H, H’s family, the nieces and nephews, Dickens (the crazy dog), or my grandma.

Been Looking for the Perfect Lunch Spot...

I finally found a park to have my lunch at. A park real close to work. I go there, missed it, so I drove around the block. Got a little lost, but found my way. I knew which direction the park was in, so I kept traveling in that direction. Pulled in and got my lunch out of the car. Sat at a picnic table in a pavilion – thought I’d be away from the majority of the wind depending on the direction of the wind and seats in the pavilion. I chose poorly, so as I was packing up my lunch to go back to the car (after only 2 bites of my sandwich), these kids started running all over the picnic tables and benches. No adult was anywhere to be found in the park AT ALL.

So, I leave the park and head back to work. This cat gave me the crazy eye and ran at my car instead of turning in the other direction. I swear the cat looked me square in my eye before he darted out. I felt a thump, looked in my rearview mirror and the cat was lying in the middle of the road with his fuzzy tummy in the air. I drove around the block thinking I might be able to find someone the cat belonged to while thinking I should call the police about it.

I saw this man in his driveway. I rolled my window down and asked if anyone in the neighborhood had an orange tabby cat. He said he didn’t know. It could be a stray. I told him that I hit a cat on the next street and was wondering if it belonged to anyone. He then asked if I could do him a favor. I said, “I don’t know…it depends on what it is.” He asked if I would pull into his driveway and give him a jump because he couldn’t get his car started – he had jumper cables.

I pulled in making sure to miss the tree stump to the right and his car to the left. Not an easy feat to be sure! I thought I’d never get out of there. His car took forever to start. So long, in fact, that he was in the process of calling someone for a ride when it finally turned over. I finally got out of there. When I turned onto the street where I hit the cat, I looked in both directions, but there was no cat in the middle of the road. Thank God, I didn’t hit him on life #9. He at least had one more life left in him.

When I got back to work, I checked my car and tires to make sure everything was okay. I found no place dented in, I found no cat hair sticking to any part of my car, I guess I’m okay. I’m still shaken up, though. I’ve never hit anything besides a curb before – that was an accident, too. I swear I didn’t do that on purpose and it was two years ago.
